Looking to step up in a leadership role within your organisation or the red meat processing industry?
Applications are now open for the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation’s next intake of the Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) course.
The ARLP course is an in-depth, cross-sectoral, national leadership program for rural, regional, and remote Australians. It produces leaders who can influence, advocate and lead in authentic and ethical ways.
Over 15 months, 30-35 leaders from diverse backgrounds, industries and communities will embark on a unique learning experience involving multiple sessions across the country and internationally.
Through lived experience methodology as opposed to class-based coursework, participants connect and learn in a real-life context while expanding their perspectives and knowledge across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.
Between sessions, there’ll be online peer-to-peer coaching, session preparation, debriefing, masterclasses and international engagement as part of the program. These additions are designed to deepen and extend the impact of what the participants learn and experience in the face-to-face sessions.
The experience will equip you with knowledge, skills and confidence to drive positive change. You’ll also become part of an ARLF alumni network of more than 2500 leaders across rural, regional and remote Australia.
AMPC has previously supported red meat processing participants to complete the ARLP course each year.
By investing in our valued members, AMPC is building a cohort of leaders who act beyond themselves, work effectively with others, facilitate change and drive innovation in our industry and local communities.
Hear from Jacob Welch - AMPC’s course 30 participant
AMPC congratulates Jacob Welch, Group Environmental Manager at Teys Australia for being selected to participate in course 30 of the Australian Rural Leadership Program.
Jacob will take part in the first session which starts in June 2023 and has only been given a packing list and instructions to leave his phone at home.
Jacob said, “I’m looking forward to the unknown around an opportunity, to be thrown into an experimental leadership program. I’m excited to go through this experience with a diverse range of participants from other rural and agricultural industries.
“I'm hoping I come out of the program with a different perspective around leadership, to be a better person and leader.
“It was very humbling to be selected as AMPC’s sponsored participant. I first heard about the program when I started working in the red meat processing industry as a graduate in 2012. I know alumni from the program, and I never thought I would get the opportunity, it’s hard to put it into words what it means to me. I have a great sense of responsibility to make a difference for our industry.
“I think developing leaders that support rural industries and agriculture industries is going to be critical for the sustainability of these industries. I encourage other red meat processing industry participants to challenge themselves to grow as leaders.”
Born and raised in the NSW Riverina, Jacob has worked much of his life in the red meat industry. After completing studies in Environmental Management and Ecology, he moved to Brisbane where he began his career, specialising in the environmental field, workplace health and safety and capital project delivery. He is currently the Group Environmental Manager for Teys Australia, managing meat processing facilities and feedlots on the East Coast.
Want to know more about the program?
The ARLF will host an applicant Q&A webinar session on June 14 for the upcoming intake to course 31, with applications opening 1 June 2023.
The ARLF team will provide more information about the program, the learning model, program structure, selection criteria and the types of skills participants can expect to develop. You’ll also hear from alumni about their experience on program and how it’s had a positive impact on their lives. It’s a chance to ask the ARLF team and alumni questions to help you decide whether this program is for you, or someone you have in mind.
