AMPC was a proud partner of the Australian Meat Industry Council’s Meat Processing and Export Conference (MPEC) held in early April.
Interim CEO, Edwina Toohey spoke at the Welcome Dinner and highlighted the important research and development that AMPC is undertaking. She also talked about AMPC’s More to Meat campaign and the latest research results which inform that campaign.
Edwina said, “AMPC’s research and development spans across advanced manufacturing technologies, sustainability, international markets, and people and culture initiatives such as the AMPC Careers Portal.”
She highlighted AMPC’s purpose in conducting important research and development and adoption activities that benefit red meat processors across Australia.
The More to Meat research was conducted in October last year and the findings ratified the critical importance of our industry to regional Australian communities and their economies.
Edwina said, “The research revealed that an astounding 88 suburbs and localities across Australia have meat processing as the single largest industry of employment. This means that for those 88 suburbs and townships, meat processing is keeping their local economy afloat, the community bustling and local people employed.”
“The research also revealed that for every person directly employed in the meat processing industry, around four others are employed through flow-on economic activity. With this diverse and far-reaching supply chain, there are now more jobs on offer, there’s more money being injected into our local, regional and national economies, and there are more opportunities for all.”
The More to Meat campaign is about highlighting the significant contribution of red meat processors to Australia’s economy, particularly regional economies. Now in its third year, More to Meat has been influential in deepening Australians’ awareness, understanding and support of red meat processors and this is shown through research.
