Opportunities exist to decarbonise the red meat processing industry, however the capital cost impact can be substantial when undertaking large-scale, high-impact projects.

The ACCU Scheme is designed to provide an incentive for proponents to undertake emissions reduction, avoidance and sequestration projects by enabling the generation of ACCUs, which are a monetisable commodity.
Industrial facilities can generate ACCUs by implementing projects under the Industrial and Commercial Emissions Reduction Methodology Determination (‘the ICER Method’) of the ACCU Scheme. The ICER Method allows for ACCUs to be generated for eligible abatement over a seven-year crediting period, which can then be sold to create revenue from the decarbonisation activity. This research served as a pilot project for the demonstration of this concept in the red meat processing industry.
