Meat industry humanoids: Stage 1 trial
The Australian red meat processing industry faces ongoing challenges with labour availability, workplace
safety and the automation of tasks that require human dexterity and adaptability.
Conventional industrial robots have successfully automated many repetitive processes, but tasks involving irregular products, complex handling and the use of hand tools remain difficult to automate and require large footprints and site modifications. Humanoid robots, which are designed with human-like arms and hands, offer a potential alternative by providing the flexibility to perform a wider range of tasks within existing processing
environments.
This project, undertaken by Intelligent Robotics, investigated whether humanoid robots could be trained to perform representative tasks relevant to red meat processing.
