Traceability in small stock processing

AMPC partnered with an Australian red meat processing plant to perform a cost benefit analysis for introducing a radio-frequency identification (RFID) traceability system. 

As part of this project, multiple scenarios were assessed including traceability of carcases from harvest to chilling and traceability of carcases into the boning room. 

By installing RFID traceability systems, it can increase the feedback to producers and subsequently increase the quality of carcases and offal. It can also help to: 

•    Labour savings 
•    Increased productivity 
•    Increased lean meat yield
•    Reduced offal rejections
