AMPC’s Amanda Carter a finalist in Meat Business Women of the Year Awards

A genuine passion for the people who make the red meat processing industry what it is and a desire to see their careers grow is what drives AMPC's Manager of People and Culture Amanda Carter.

That passion has paved the way for Amanda to blaze new trails - from bringing together processor innovation managers into an influential cohort to the cutting-edge Grow Your Own program just kicking off at AMPC.

It has also earned Amanda a place as a finalist in the prestigious Meat Business Women of the Year Award, which recognises an established woman with 10 or more years of experience who has made a significant and sustained contribution to Australia’s meat industry.

Sponsored by Bott Insurance Group, the award is open to women from all sectors of the meat business and celebrates leadership that strengthens capability and contributes to a thriving, future-focused sector.

Amanda's work epitomises that.

She has had a massive impact on the broader industry in her time with AMPC, not only in the area of attracting and retaining diverse people to processing but in safety and health and wellbeing.

Amanda is instrumental in many of AMPC's best-known projects, such as the careers portal, the Knowledge Hub, neurodiversity programs and Meat-Tech Futures Camps.

Amanda says her role at AMPC gives her a unique vantage point.

Being in contact with so many people in the industry, and people from diverse parts of it, means she is somewhat of a conduit for collaboration. It also gives her a comprehensive view of the challenges being faced, and the possible solutions, and how the two can be brought together.

She says answers so often come from the ability to combine minds and resources and bounce ideas off each other.

Another must-have ingredient for real progress, she says, is the willingness to think outside the square.

"I've definitely had to step outside the comfort zone and push boundaries at times," she said.

"If you want to keep making a difference you can't ever just sit on your laurels."

A true advocate for the broader agricultural industry, Amanda and her family breed Shorthorn cattle and showcase red meat at local and national shows through exhibiting stock.

The MBW Award winners will be announced at an event in Melbourne on July 28.
