AMPC Decarbonisation Pathways Update 2025
The Australian red meat processing sector faces increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in response to national climate targets, evolving regulatory frameworks, and growing market expectations for low-emissions products.
While previous studies have identified potential decarbonisation pathways, uncertainty remains regarding their feasibility under current Australian energy market conditions, technology maturity and policy settings. Rapid developments in electrification, renewable energy integration and grid decarbonisation necessitate an updated assessment of emissions reduction opportunities.
This project was commissioned by AMPC to review and update emissions reduction pathways for the sector, building on earlier analyses undertaken in 2019 and 2023. The objective of this study is to identify the most viable and scalable decarbonisation pathways for the Australian RMP sector under current technological, economic, and policy conditions, and to provide an updated evidence base to support industry decision-making.
