This project incorporated solar energy and battery storage to provide a meat processing facility with partial independence from the electricity grid. A microgrid is a small ‘subset’ of the electricity grid that provides energy generation and storage at a local level.
The purpose of this project combined renewable energy generation with sheep grazing as a demonstration of dual land use.
It offered the opportunity to study grazing and pasture management in conjunction with a ‘greenfield’ solar installation with sheep grazing under solar panels.
The findings included good financial returns together with reducing carbon emissions.
