This project investigated the use of sustainable plastic packaging for chilled lamb meat storage over 20 weeks, assessing its impact on microorganism populations, meat quality, and oxidative stability.

The research findings showed that new sustainable packaging options can achieve shelf-life equivalent to or better than conventional methods, extending storage duration by 10-15 per cent. Additionally, Raman spectroscopy was identified as a non-destructive tool to monitor microbial status, offering potential supply chain and consumer safety benefits.
