The Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) hosted its regional Innovation Spotlight event in Bunbury, Western Australia, in February.
Processors, industry stakeholders, government representatives and research providers from across the state travelled to attend the event, marking the first time AMPC has gathered the West Australian red meat processing industry in over five years.
The first day of the program involved a tour of the state-of-the-art cold storage facility at V&V Walsh. Day two of the event featured AMPC program managers sharing updates on their strategic program areas, highlighting the key priorities for research and development investments.
Keynote speakers Wayne Crofts of Craig Mostyn Group and Graham Gardner from Murdoch University engaged attendees with insights on advancing innovations and the latest objective measurement technologies. A range of research and development providers joined the event to showcase their innovations and network with processors.
The event included a panel discussion led by AMPC Program Manager Matthew Deegan on ‘Managing the energy water nexus’ with research providers Carl Duncan of NRG One and Fabiana Tessele of Tessele Consultants presenting the latest insights from their AMPC-funded projects.
Attendees were provided with an overview of AMPC’s decarbonisation pathway and project structure, while the AMPC Careers Portal was available for processors to trial.
AMPC Project Officer Lauren Smith said, “AMPC was extremely pleased by the positive feedback received from the processors and industry representatives that attended the event.
“A standout moment was touring the V&V Walsh cold store facility with the cohort. It was a great opportunity for processors to see the potential of adopting innovations.
“Hosting the event in Western Australia was a great opportunity for AMPC to reconnect with local processors and introduce valuable research providers. Attendees discovered the latest research and development outcomes, resources, tools and calculators that can support a sustainable, efficient, and profitable red meat processing industry,” she said.
