Red Meat Processing Cost to Operate Analysis
An updated analysis of average red meat processing costs in Australia with comparisons to international competitors in New Zealand, USA and Brazil.
This project involved the collection and analysis of operational cost data from red meat processors and other sources to determine average processing costs per head, excluding livestock supply. Further analysis of costs determined the extent and proportion of costs that are subject to regulation.
The results indicate significant increases in costs since the original analysis was completed, broadly in line with increases in the Producer Price indices for manufacturing inputs. Around half the operational costs are subject to material regulatory influence.
The research may be used by industry for internal cost comparison analysis and strategy to improve productivity and competitiveness, and externally for engagement with stakeholders to improve the operating and regulatory environment facing the industry.
