WWT pond desludging using geo bags

01 December 2020
Focus area: Waste
Program stream: Sustainability
Project number: 2020-1046

The aim of this project was to remove the need to de-sludge a pond by undertaking desludging in GEO bags. The first stage enabled a trial run of the configuration with suitable water and sludge analysis to get an understanding if it is feasible for this concept to work at scale.

Initial testing was conducted with the GEO bags, and it was discovered that a hardstand needed to be set up to allow two GEO Bag systems to run at the same time. This would allow one system to be taken offline to drain, dry and remove solids while the second system continued the filtering process.
