ThermX – Retrofit a thermodynamic collection system to existing refrigeration plant to reduce energy use

29 June 2021
Focus area: Energy
Program stream: Sustainability
Project number: 2020-1021
This project funded the installation, trial, and validation of a new retrofit technology refrigeration system at an Australian meat processing plant. The project aimed to reduce refrigeration electricity demand and kWh consumption by utilising solar thermal energy to make compressors more energy efficient.

The project delivered significant energy usage reductions, with a 39.3 per cent decrease in kWh consumption and a 57.7 per cent decrease in kVah consumption. The plant also benefited from financial savings from this trial.
