RnD4Profit Closing the Loop: Black soldier fly technology to convert food and fertiliser

28 February 2023
Focus area: Waste
Program stream: Sustainability
Project number: 2019-1061
AMPC partnered with Australian Pork Limited as part of the Rural R&D for Profit Program to investigate the use of black soldier fly (BSF) waste treatment technology, a waste management option that may be more sustainable, productive and profitable for primary industries.

This project explored the conversion of low-value agricultural waste products into high quality, innovative fertilisers and soil improvers. Using BSF technology to turn specially managed waste products into highly valuable bio-waste products, could increase productivity and profitability, reduce waste, labour and transport costs, improve environmental impacts, and contribute to enhancing the sustainability of agriculture in Australia.
