29 May 2024
Focus area: Packaging
Program stream: Sustainability
Project number: 2022-1013
The project trialled the use eco flow packaging technology for beef mince products and test the product in the Australian market for consumer acceptance.

Trials were carried out at a Queensland-based red meat processing plant. Sustainability attributes of the packaging were analysed then tested in the retail market in 500g beef mince.

The flow wrap technology was successfully commissioned and integrated with mince grinding and forming systems. Flow wrap packaging offers a 70 per cent reduction in plastic weight compared with incumbent rigid tray and film. There was also positive feedback from consumers.
