G & K O’Connor Pty Ltd – Sustainability Strategy 2022 – 2030
The project supported G. & K. O’Connor (GKO) in moving from fragmented sustainability initiatives to an integrated, evidence‑based program focused on efficiency, decarbonisation and regulatory readiness. It addressed rising energy and water costs, increasing environmental scrutiny and forthcoming mandatory climate‑related disclosures by identifying practical, commercially viable pathways to improve resource use, reduce emissions and strengthen long‑term business resilience.
Using a staged methodology, the work combined baseline assessments with detailed technical and economic analysis, including the ARENA/AMPC‑funded Closing the Loop on Process Energy and Emissions study. This was complemented by a site‑wide Water Audit, AMPC Environmental Performance Review benchmarking, and integration with governance and reporting frameworks. Key outcomes included an efficiency‑led decarbonisation roadmap, installation of metering and monitoring systems, identification of high‑return water and energy initiatives and a defined pathway toward process‑heat electrification—positioning GKO to meet upcoming climate reporting obligations and offering insights applicable across the red meat processing sector.
