AMPC partnered with The University of Queensland to trial the use of smouldering combustion as an alternative treatment option for organic solid wastes with high moisture contents.

Laboratory testing was successful, self-sustaining smouldering was achieved at moisture content up to 75 per cent. These results demonstrate that smouldering can work with current paunch dewatering technologies, no additional pre-drying is required however odour issues were encountered.
