Assessing the value of soil conditioner derived from red meat processing AD digestate

06 March 2025
Focus area: Waste
Program stream: Sustainability
Project number: 2024-1091
This research confirmed that a red meat digestate-derived bio fertiliser is a viable, sustainable alternative to conventional fertilisers, with economic feasibility supported by a projected seven-year payback period. The study highlights that integrating food waste digestate enhances nutrient content, and consumer surveys indicate a willingness to pay a premium for digestate-derived products. This project also confirmed the feasibility of producing and commercialising a digestate-derived bio fertiliser incorporating by-products from the red meat industry.
