Publishing of new standard, extension and training

This project funded the revision and publications of the Industry Animal Welfare Standard as well as the development of a strategy to implement the Industry Standard in Australian meat processing plants. This included the development and delivery of industry training sessions and auditor calibration activities. 

The Industry Standard and implementation guide were published that: 
•    went through several iterations
•    met international guidelines for standard development
•    contained outcome and evidence-based requirements
•    resulted in improved animal welfare
•    involved stakeholder engagement in its development, through the formation of a formal Standards          development committee
•    ensured emerging issues that are likely to negatively impact the meat processing industry in the future will be identified and can be mitigated against
•    ensured decisions concerning animal welfare are informed by science
•    is in a format that can be readily implemented in a first, second- or third-party conformity assessment scheme
•    demonstrates to stakeholders that the industry is taking an active lead in animal welfare and are committed to achieving positive animal welfare outcomes throughout the supply chain.

Two interactive webinar sessions were delivered to industry personnel. These can be viewed on the AMPC YouTube channel.

An interactive webinar session was delivered to personnel from the Department of Agriculture.

Third-party auditor training and calibration course was delivered to AUS-MEAT auditors.
