Hide marking proof of concept evaluation

25 June 2021
Focus area: Traceability & integrity systems
Program stream: Product & process integrity
Project number: 2020-1070
AMPC worked with an Australian red meat processing plant and Management for Technology to compare the benefits of mechanical punching systems against laser marking systems for hide marking.

As part of the project, background research was conducted to better understand the industry’s best practice approach to hide marking. Equipment and machinery suppliers were engaged to determine which solutions would be best suited for the technical requirements. This was followed by two phases of trials that determined the best placement and size of the ID mark and the ability of the hides to be tracked through hide processing channels.
