Providing feedback to producers – what value for the processor?

Focus area: Development
Program stream: People & culture
Project number: 2018-1039
AMPC worked with MINTRAC to review five existing models of producer feedback and develop case studies that focused on the returns and benefits to processors of each model.

As part of the project, a simplified model was trialed for small and medium-sized processing plants for the collection and analysis of data and provision of feedback to producers. They explored the value of providing sheep producers with animal health collected at postmortem inspection.

The trial determined that if the processor provided the producer with animal health data on their stock, then producers would respond by addressing the prevalence of these conditions and the quality of the stock would increase.
