Co-product recovery and overall efficiency gain to meet output capacities (stage1)

15 June 2023
Focus area: Digitisation
Program stream: Advanced manufacturing
Project number: 2022-1052
AMPC worked with an Australian red meat processing plant and NIRAS to identify current industry best practice innovations and solutions for co-product recovery.

A co-product is a material that is created during manufacturing process of a product. These materials can be recovered to avoid going to waste and redirected to other areas of the processing plant.

These solutions will address several areas of concern for the red meat industry, including labour shortages, staff OH&S, double handling of products, product contamination and inefficient product freezing methods.

The project also looked at a de-risk integration strategy to implement these solutions in existing processing plants, allowing them to improve processes and performance efficiencies.
