Improvements to robotic bandsaw operation

12 December 2017
Focus area: Hands-off processing
Program stream: Advanced manufacturing
Project number: 2016-1043
Robotic automation and hybrid processes for bandsawing have a wide array of advantages for the red meat industry, including lower production costs, reduced worker fatigue, increased workplace safety and hygiene, and higher throughput and yield through efficient cut placement algorithms and the precision control of the thin-kerf bandsaw blade.

The intention of this project was to provide an array of potential improvements to existing manual and robotic meat sawing systems through the integration of technologies for sensing, actuation, interface design and asset management.
