Bovine Carcase Inspection/Contamination Management - On-site Validation & Process Integration

24 June 2025
Focus area: Hands-off processing
Program stream: Advanced manufacturing
Project number: 2023-1051

The research trialled Veritide's BluMax technology, which is a chlorophyll-detection technology that can reliably identify faecal contamination in real-time, helping to reduce food safety risks and costly recalls. Beyond detection, the project revealed significant additional value in the system’s data and analytics platform, offering processors new opportunities for process optimisation, traceability, and contamination risk management. While augmented reality trimming is not yet commercially viable, the scanner’s accuracy, sensitivity controls, and potential for wider integration highlight its promise for improving operational efficiency, sustainability, and international competitiveness in the red meat processing industry.
