Beef striploin fat removal (Stage 2A) - twin-head laser and ultrasonic 3D fat-lean boundary profilin

21 June 2022
Focus area: Hands-off processing
Program stream: Advanced manufacturing
Project number: 2021-1077
AMPC partnered with BMC to develop ultrasonic sensing and laser profiling of beef striploins to determine fat thickness and profile in a development step towards automated fat trimming.

This project is a continuation of Stage 1 Technology evaluation for fat removal for beef striploins leaving a uniform thickness behind.

This trial determined that ultrasonic and laser measurement could be used in a automatic solution for trimming striploin primal pieces.
