Strong turnout for APPEX Meat Industry Day

More than 200 participants came along to our Meat Industry Day at the APPEX Exhibition last month. The event, presented by AMPC in partnership with Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), was designed to foster discussion among industry leaders, researchers, businesses and other stakeholders.

AMPC Program Manager Advanced Manufacturing, Stuart Shaw says the packed agenda included insights on topics from production and processing to sustainability and innovation within the meat industry. The engaging sessions and panel discussions provided valuable perspectives on the future of the red meat industry and showcased the exciting opportunities available to all involved.

“The breadth of participants reflects a real interest in the level of opportunity available in the red meat industry,” Stuart says.

“We welcomed processors, engineers, food technologists, packaging developers, research developers. sustainability managers and many more. The day was an incredible success for AMPC, AMIC, MLA and the industry.”

One of the most popular sessions was a panel discussion with AMPC CEO Chris Taylor, AMIC CEO Patrick Hutchinson and Michael Lee, MLA’s Group Manager Science and Innovation. They explored the topic ‘The red meat sector five years from now’ including a look at opportunities and challenges within the industry as well as what we must get right to achieve success in the future. Chris spoke about capability in and around the industry, from school age through academia as well as technology and the latest in R&D that AMPC continually works on.

AMPC also provided updates on innovation, including carcase use and optimisation, hands off processing, communities, decarbonisation, clean energy transition, responsible water management, waste valorisation and circular economy, and much more.

“It was rewarding to see the connections and discussions following the event, with people who may not have crossed paths normally, connecting on the day,” Stuart says.
