ICMJ Rockhampton Conference a big success

ICMJ Rockhampton Conference a big success

The annual Northern ICMJ Conference was held in Rockhampton this month, with 130 early career beef industry professionals and university students participating in the four-day program to build their beef industry knowledge.

AMPC Program Manager People and Culture, Amanda Carter says the reason we are sponsors of ICMJ is that the ICMJ program gives uni students and young professionals new perspectives on what the beef industry is about and the opportunities it can offer.

“The program draws students and early-stage professionals from a quite diverse range of disciplines and it’s really been successful in leading lots of people to pursue their careers in this sector, which offers interesting and rewarding careers right across the red meat value chain.”

The conference was launched in 2019 to help uncover, inspire and develop leaders and professionals in the global red meat industry. The Rockhampton event was hosted by CQUniversity and Teys Australia and includes professional development, workshops, presentations, a carcase breakdown and a meat judging competition.

“The conference was very well received, and there was a lot of interest in the Industry and Careers Expo, where some of our major meat processing companies and vertically integrated beef supply businesses showcased the career options the sector can offer,” Amanda says.

The conference concluded with an awards dinner featuring Teys beef, to recognise the best meat judges across a range of classes.

The 2024 ICMJ Northern Conference was supported by AMPC along with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and industry partners.

The annual National ICMJ Competition will be held in Wagga Wagga in July.
